There is almost a one size fits all stroke recovery journey. Yet as everyone is unique it makes it that much harder for every stroke survivor to “fit in” to this “mass rehabilitation “mould”.
In no way am I saying the regular stroke rehabilitation journey most follow is wrong. It is incredible. Well and truly amazing! Its just once you advance through your journey long enough, you may find yourself juggling a lot of things in your life that you may run out of options than to get creative. Not in the sense of artsy creativity, but in the sense of thinking outside the box for when you run out of ideas of what to do next. Say for example you have far too many things going on that you begin to get overwhelmed. Sometimes the absolute best thing to do is to talk to someone new. Someone you have never met, never communicated with. To get a new perspective. To bring a breath of fresh air into your life. To lighten the load. Counsellors for example give all of this and more…..
Personally I know how beneficial it is to have a  talented counsellor on your side. Many of my clients can vouch for this as they have all moved from strength to strength since seeing me. It really lightens the load and brings you answers to questions you didn’t even know you had. In saying this while you see a counsellor it keeps you one step ahead, instead of three steps behind. This is a magnificent sensation to be calmly and collectively at peace with where you are in life (whilst managing to get everything done with ease).
Seeing a counsellor is not the only way you can get creative. You can pick and choose your own therapists and create your own unique team. But remember that your family or friends that are guiding you may be guiding you from their best perspective of what they think is best for you, not from your own. If you see a counsellor you will discover what it is that you deeply want to achieve for yourself.
